Balsapuu Ochroma pyramidale "Balsa"
Native to America, balsa wood grows naturally in the tropical forests of equatorial regions. The extremely light, aromatic wood of the cork tree is considered a valuable raw material in the furniture industry and shipbuilding. The plant has large inflorescences, which in the wild are pollinated by bats. Easily grown from seeds, the fast-growing tree already has a 6-month-old seedling length of 3-4 cm.
At home, it can be shaped into a bonsai; in the wild, at the age of 6-10 years it is ready for industrial use, when it reaches 20-28 m in length and 30-100 cm in thickness.
Seeds are sown in moist soil, covered with sand and kept moist at +20-30 degrees until germination. Requires moist air and a semi-shaded place to grow.
