Mountain cabbage tree
Mountain cabbage tree
One of the most popular and undemanding to the conditions of keeping "false palms".
Deciduous perennial indoor plant up to 1.5 m in height, forming a "classic palm" habit: tree trunk (about 100 cm) with a rosette of long saber-shaped leaves.
The leaves are often bordered or striped.
Placement: on the lit place, but with cover from direct sunshine.
Temperature within +20+23°С, but not lower than +10°С.
Regular watering: the soil in the pot should be constantly moist, but excess water should not be allowed.
Requires frequent foliar spraying. Feed every 14 days from March to August.
Rarely affected by pests and diseases. Seeds are treated with growth stimulants before sowing. Seed germination temperature + 25+30°С.
Ideal for offices, winter gardens and insulated balconies.
Blooms rarely with white or light green flowers.
SOWING: in spring in light soil with a neutral reaction. For example: a mixture of light turfy earth with sand (1: 1). The substrate is moistened and sown immediately in separate cups with drainage holes, planting the seeds to a depth of 0.5-1 cm. The crops are covered with a film.
Seeds begin to germinate in a warm (+25+30°C), lit place with bottom heating in 3-4 weeks and finish in 2-3 months. Avoid direct sunlight on crops. Crops are regularly sprayed with warm water and ventilated.
Start picking when the plants are 4-5 cm tall in 6-9 cm pots with good drainage.
CARE: the plant is photophilous, but does not tolerate direct sunlight. In summer, watering is plentiful, and in winter, watering is reduced to rarely-moderate.
Optimum temperature for keeping in summer: +22+24°С, in winter: +5+10°С.
Responds well to regular spraying. Top dressing is carried out in the summer 1 time per week. Transplanted in the spring every two to three years, using a substrate with very good drainage.
FLOWER: in spring. Very rare and short.
