Alpine Sea Holly (eryngo) - Eryngium alpinum.
Hardy Herbaceous Perennial. Flowers: Summer. Height 45 cm. Ideal For: Border, Dried Flower.
The largest flowering sea holly, with charming, non-prickly, laced blooms of long-lasting cool, gun metal blue flowers on stout blue stems. Very attractive winter decoration when cut and dried.
Sowing Instructions: sow early spring at +19+24 °C on the surface of good free-draining seed compost and gently firm down. Sealing in a polythene bag after sowing is helpful.
Germination usually takes 5-90 days.
Growing Instructions: when seedlings are large enough to handle transplant into 7.5 cm pots and grow on in cooler conditions such as a coldframe.
Aftercare Instructions: plant out in the autumn 38 cm apart in a sunny spot in well-drained soil.
