Barilla plant (Oppositeleaf saltwort) - Salsola soda.
Salad culture, a rare delicacy and also a natural substitute for soda.
An unpretentious annual that does not require frequent watering and is suitable for growing in all climatic regions. Stems branched (40-80 cm high).
Young shoots are rich in vitamins and minerals, have a piquant salty taste, they are used to prepare original salads and snacks.
Saltwort  is a natural source of soda, which is obtained from the ashes of this plant.
1,0 g = 40-50 seeds.
Agricultural technology.
Saltwort is a cold-resistant, light-loving plant. Prefers sunny, fertile areas. Seeds are sown without embedding, but with obligatory mulching with peat by 2-3 cm.
Seedlings appear on the 10-15th day. Crop care consists of loosening row spacings, watering and fertilizing.
To obtain earlier greenery, it is possible to sow before winter, on frozen soil (in Estonian conditions, this is the second decade of November - early December), with obligatory mulching with peat by 2-3 cm.
Greens are cut several times during the season, leaving only the lower leaves: when a part of the plant is removed, young greens grow back.
