False Brome - Brachypodium sylvaticum.
A perennial plant in the Poaceae family.
A shade-tolerant, bushy grass. 80-100 cm tall.
The leaves are broad, dark green, flat, and rough (like dry parchment). By autumn, the foliage turns yellow-brown. The clump is a mass of wide, drooping leaves.
Flowering period: June - September. It blooms in June and September with spike-shaped inflorescences.
Hardiness zones: Z4 - Z8. Resistant to diseases and pests.
Tolerates a wide range of conditions: from dry shade to moist, sunny spots – this determines the height and vigor of the clump. It can be used in rockeries and as a groundcover. It grows poorly in full sun and may already have its autumn colour by August, so it is best planted in partial shade or shade. The roots are small and numerous and can hold the soil in place. It grows back early in the spring.
Planting density: 7-9 plants/m², depending on site conditions.
Uses: a very striking plant for wooded areas, including those in an oriental style. Can be planted to anchor slopes in partial shade. Can be planted as single specimens, in small groups (as in a forest), or in striking masses. Looks great in pots for landscaping shady terraces.
1.0 g = 230 seeds.

Bot. syn.: Festuca sylvatica Huds., Bromus sylvaticus Luce.
