Hollyhock "Royal White" - Alcea rosea.
An expressively lush accent in the garden!
This amazing, incredibly delicate novelty will set the most expressive snow-white accents in your garden. It will delight you with lush blooming, a lovely fragrance, and the surprising shape of its large flowers. The variety forms compact, neat bushes that are only 60 cm tall – which is highly unusual for predominantly tall classic hollyhocks. The flowers are large, 9-10 cm in diameter, fully double, with an original shape featuring elegantly fringed petal edges and a subtle, pleasant aroma. The plants bloom profusely from July to September. They are ideally used for decorating formal flower beds, borders, the foreground of mixed borders, and even outdoor containers. Cut flower stalks look magnificent in a vase, opening in water right down to the very last bud.
Sowing: In May, sow seeds directly into their permanent location (2-3 seeds per hole), or start indoors early in spring via seedlings (seeds should be soaked in warm water for 24 hours before sowing). Seedlings emerge in 6-14 days. Grown seedlings are planted outdoors, making sure to keep the root ball intact, with a spacing of about 20 cm between plants.
Care: This is a light-loving, winter-hardy, and drought-resistant plant. However, for the best possible growth and development, hollyhocks should be grown in open, sunny locations with fertile, deeply cultivated, loose, and well-drained soil of neutral acidity. The plants must be watered during dry weather.
Flowering: Begins in July and continues abundantly right through to September. Blooms in the first year of sowing.
Please note: blooming in the year of sowing occurs specifically when using the early indoor seedling method. Sowing seeds for seedlings should be done directly into individual deep pots, as the plant develops a strong taproot and tolerates pricking out very poorly if the roots are disturbed.

Bot. syn.: Althaea rosea (L.)
