Kidneyweed "Silver Falls"
Kidneyweed "Silver Falls" - Dichondra argentea.
A hanging basket is incomplete without this trailing, silverleaved little beauty! It also has the advantage of drought tolerance. A superb foil for hot colours, and just as good in large containers and window boxes. Height 150 cm (trailing).
Flowers: Summer Height: 3 inches
Position: Sun or Partial Shade
Germination.
Vigorous growth displays true cascading plants with attractive glistening silver foliage and stems. Excellent added to mixed containers or creates a stunning basket plant on its own Height: 5-7.5 cm (2-3 inches). Spread/Trailing 90-120 cm (3-4 feet).
Sowing Instructions: Sow January to April on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays. Lightly cover the seed with a sprinkle of fine grade vermiculite. Keep at a temperature of between +21+23°C.
After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged; until germination which usually takes 5-10 days. When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 7.5 cm (3in) pots or trays.
Growing Instructions: Gradually acclimatise plants to cooler conditions for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost 15-30 cm (6-12in) apart or in baskets or containers.
Aftercare Instructions: For the best results, plant in a good well-drained soil or compost and grow on in full sun or part shade.
