Rock bellflower
Bellflower - Campanula saxifraga.
Flower colour: violet-blue.
Foliage form: lanceolate.
Natural flowering period: May - June.
Flowering plant height: 10 cm.
Winter hardiness zones: Z3 - Z7.
Perennial rock garden from the Campanulaceae family.
Origin: Caucasus mountains.
Place in the garden: open or shaded areas on loosened soil among stones.
Seeding recommendations:
- for best results, grow in the late autumn or spring months, before sowing, store the seeds in a dry place at a temperature of +2 + 4 degrees;
- use boxes with a height of 7-10 cm with a channel for water drainage and use a light, loose and moisture-permeable soil mixture;
- pour a layer of crushed stone or expanded clay 1-2 cm thick on the bottom of the tank and cover it with seed mixture, level the surface and slightly compact;
- distribute the seeds over the surface, avoiding crowding, cover with a thin layer of washed sand, moisten the seeds from below or with a fine spray from above and cover with glass (seedlings will appear unevenly and stretch out);
- lowering the temperature to +4 degrees stimulates germination;
- when keeping seeds in the open air, avoid direct sunlight and maintain uniform temperature and humidity, avoiding excessive moisture, drying out and overheating of the substrate;
- harden seedlings by systematic ventilation, first by shifting the coverslip, then removing it on warm days, and then removing it completely.
