What diseases does melon suffer from and what pests does it have?
Melons are susceptible to fusarium wilt, anthracnose, and powdery mildew. To prevent these diseases, spray the soil before planting and the plants before flowering with Bordeaux mixture or HOM (copper oxychloride). Alternatively, you can use the biological product Fitosporin.
A good result is achieved by preventative spraying with Zircon and Epin-Extra (dissolve 2 drops of each preparation in 1 liter of water).
This spraying is done when the melon has 3-4 true leaves, and is repeated when buds appear on the plant.
Melon has many pests: melon aphids, spider mites, whiteflies, and cutworms. To control them, use products such as Fitoverm or Iskra.
Bot. syn.: Melo sativus.
