Alpine Sawsepal Penstemon - Penstemon alpinus.
Perennial for the rockgarden.
Flowering plant height: 20 cm.
Flowering period: V-VI.
Climatic zones: Z3-8.
Name: comes from the Greek words "pente" - five and "stemon" - stamen thread, according to the number of stamens in a flower.
Perennial plant growing in the form of a dense cushion. The flowers are yellowish-lilac with a white throat, collected 4-8 in umbellate inflorescences. Blooms in June-July.
Location: photophilous. Penstemons are planted in dry, warm, protected places with good drainage.
Soil: prefer light, well-drained soils well-drained with rotted manure. For successful development, an acidic substrate is required - plants do not like lime.
Care: alpine penstemon needs light shelter for the winter with foliage, a layer of 10-15 cm.
Usage: Penstemon is planted in groups in prefabricated flower beds or in stripes on ridges. Penstemon grows very well in containers, outdoor vases, boxes and pots installed on sunny verandas or loggias with a canopy from the rain. Its stems bend, hang down, and the inflorescences turn up.
The inflorescences are suitable for cutting into bouquets. Although they do not last long in the water, they look great.
Partners: successfully combined with plants of orange and yellow tones - calendula, dimorphoteca, rudbeckia, coreopsis; with white flowers - lobularia, terry form of yarrow.
