Grayi's Sedge (Morning Star Sedge) - Carex grayi.
Perennial from the Cyperaceae family.
Origin: East coast of North America.
Flowering plant height: 50 cm.
Winter hardiness zones: Z6 - Z9.
1.0 g = 70 seeds.
The leaves are yellowish-green, narrow, grooved, almost vertically directed, hard. It is distinguished by very original fruits, for which it received the name “morning star sedge”.
Large, up to 1.5 cm long, seed sacs form a beautiful, almost spherical star. Foliage is bright green, upright.
Blooms from June to August, remains green almost until late autumn. It grows well in damp places and along the banks of water bodies, but also tolerates rather dry places and bright sun.
It is used for single landings, creating borders, in mass along the banks of reservoirs. Interesting in the cut for arrangement, including as a dried flower.
