Homeland - South America. 
An annual climbing plant. Stems are thin, curly, smooth, densely leafy.
Leaves are numerous, compound, trifoliate, with large, pointed, oval dark green leaves.
The flowers are bright red and white, in few-flowered, axillary racemes on long peduncles.
Blooms profusely in June-September. The fruit is a large, rather decorative, rough pod.
Seeds remain viable for up to 5 years. In culture since 1635.
Location: grows well in open, sunny places. It is thermophilic and is damaged even by light frosts.
Soil: Requires areas of deeply cultivated, moderately moist soil containing lime, likes watering.
Reproduction: seeds, which must be soaked for 24 hours before sowing.
They are sown in peat-humus pots in April, one seed at a time (in pottery pots ø11 cm, 3 each) or directly into the ground at the end of May.
Seedlings appear on 15-17 days. They are planted in a permanent place with a lump of earth after the end of spring frosts, keeping the distance between plants 15-20 cm.
