Southern globethistle - Echinops ritro.
Great dry flower!
In nature, it is found in the east and southeast of the European part of Russia, the Caucasus, the Urals, the south of Western Siberia, in Western China, and Southern Europe.
Perennial plant 70-100 cm tall. Stems simple or slightly branched, covered with white cobwebby pubescence.
Inflorescences 3-5 cm in diameter, capitate. Involucre leaves without glandular hairs. Flowers blue or bluish.
Blossoms in June-July 35-40 days.
Location: in a sunny, warm, even hot place, protected from the wind.
Soil: unpretentious, grows well on any cultivated soil, but prefers dry, fresh, permeable, containing lime. They do not tolerate wet, heavy soils, they begin to rot and lose strength!
Care: drought-resistant, tie if necessary, cut off after flowering. In one place grow up to 5 years.
Reproduction: dividing the bush and seeds. Seeds are sown from late April to mid-May in open ground. Seedlings swoop down and planted in autumn in a permanent place at a distance of 30-40 cm.
Use: spectacular in single and group plantings, in the background of mixborders. Dried inflorescences are beautiful in winter bouquets.
