Sweetpea "Mammoth Scarlet" - Lathyrus odoratus.
One of the most fragrant series of sweet peas: an energetically climbing creator of the fragrant charm of a corner of the Garden of Fragrances...
Climbing strong, well-leafed stems up to 200 cm long. Peduncles are strong, elastic, 25-45 cm long. Flowers are scarlet, large, 5-6 in a brush, with a delicate sweet aroma.
Blooms from the end of June until frost. Easily tolerates hot, dry conditions. Used for vertical gardening and for cutting.
Agrotechnology.
The plant prefers deeply cultivated, fertile soils. Grows well in open sunny places. Regular watering and fertilizing contribute to abundant and long-lasting flowering.
Propagated by sowing seeds in open ground in May, pre-soaked in warm water for 24 hours. The depth of seeding is 0.5-1 cm. At a soil temperature of +18°C, shoots appear in 6-10 days. The distance between plants is 15-30 cm.
When the plant reaches a height of 10 cm, the top of the shoot is pinched, supports are installed.
Thanks to the unique aroma, exquisite structure of flowers, abundant and long flowering, sweet peas are rightfully considered one of the most beautiful and favorite plants.
Sowing: March-April in pots of 3 peas per seedling or in May in open ground. Before sowing, the seeds are poured with hot water (+40+60°C) and left for a day. It is recommended to feed the seedlings with nitrogen and organic fertilizers. To enhance branching, seedlings need to be pinched above 3-4 leaves. The seedlings are planted in open ground in May with a lump of earth in light, fertile soil, maintaining a distance of 20-30 cm between plants.
Care: blooms profusely at moderate temperatures and soil moisture, requires garters and regular watering. Every two to three weeks, it is recommended to feed the plants with a solution of complex mineral fertilizer.
Flowering: July-September. To prolong flowering, faded flowers are regularly removed.
