A perennial plant from the Malvaceae family, cultivated as a biennial, up to 2-2.5 m high.
Blooms from late June to September. The flowers are terry, dark red, 8-12 cm in diameter, collected in a large, spectacular inflorescence-brush. It is photophilous and drought-resistant, undemanding to soils, but prefers areas with well-cultivated fertile soil. It is advisable to cover it for the winter. Grown by direct sowing in open ground in May. It can be sown in the second half of summer. In this case, the plants will bloom the following year.
It is used for planting in groups, mixborders, for decorating the walls of buildings and fences, as well as for cutting.
