Tomato "Striped Cavern".
A spectacular striped variety made specifically for stuffing!
This mid-season variety yields lobed (bell-shaped) tomatoes that strikingly resemble sweet bell peppers. The fruits are mostly hollow inside, with well-defined seed cavity lobes and very few seeds — looking as if nature prepared them just to be stuffed.
Characteristics:
* Plant: Indeterminate type (tall-growing) with regular foliage.
* Fruits: Large, weighing between 100 and 300 g (averaging around 200 g).
* Color and Texture: Variegated: a rich red background with bright golden-orange stripes. The walls are firm and hard.
Storage and Use:
Thanks to their firm walls, the fruits hold their shape perfectly when baked. In addition, the variety boasts a phenomenal shelf life: fully ripened tomatoes can be stored for up to 4 weeks, and significantly longer if picked semi-ripe.
HISTORICAL REFERENCE:
This variety was developed by the renowned breeder Tom Wagner. It is very similar to the well-known "Schimmeig Striped Hollow" variety.
