* Lycopene, unlike carotenoids, is not provitamin A. It has pronounced antioxidant properties, helps to normalize cholesterol metabolism, activates the digestion process, normalizes appetite, suppresses pathogenic microflora, prevents the development of atherosclerosis, maintains normal acid-base balance.
Lycopene stabilizes the DNA genome, suppressing mutagenesis and carcinogenesis, prevents precancerous age-related damage.
One of the most important functions of carotenoids is A-provitamin activity. Vitamin A is indispensable in processes associated with vision, growth, reproduction, protection against bacterial and fungal diseases, with the normal functioning of the skin and mucous membranes. In the body, it can only be obtained by converting carotenoids.
Due to the controlled conversion of carotenoids into vitamin A, their excessive consumption does not lead to the development of hypervitaminosis.
