Growing conditions.
Watermelon is a light- and heat-loving crop. In the climatic conditions of Estonia it is grown by seedlings. Sowing seedlings at the end of April.
The seeds are soaked in water for a day. Sow 2-3 seeds in a peat pot to a depth of 3 cm a month before planting in the ground. At an optimal temperature of +25+30°C, seedlings appear in 10-14 days. The period for growing seedlings is 30-35 days. They are planted in open ground when the threat of return frosts has passed. Place in a place protected from cold winds. Planting pattern 90x50 cm.
The plants are tied to a trellis, all side shoots are removed to a height of 50 cm, and subsequent shoots are pinched over 1-3 leaves. It is possible to grow in a free culture spread out. Watering is moderate, especially during the period of fruit ripening.
Care: timely weeding, fertilizing, watering as needed.
