Watermelon "Zenith".
A consistently productive, early-ripening variety: the period from full germination to harvest is 73-94 days.
The fruits are spherical-flattened, light green, with wide, occasionally intersecting dark green stripes, weighing 5-10 kg.
The bark is strong, leathery, and flexible when pressed. The flesh is bright red, grainy, tender, juicy, and very aromatic.
High sugar content and excellent taste. The fruits remain marketable for a month after harvest.
Agricultural technology.
Watermelon is grown in open ground and greenhouses, on light, air- and water-permeable soils.
Sowing should be done in May, when the soil has warmed to a depth of 8-10 cm, reaching 15-16°C. The planting pattern is 140x100 cm. In greenhouses, 70x70 cm is used, using trellises (fruit can be suspended in nets).
Before sowing, the seeds are treated in a solution of potassium permanganate, then washed with clean water.
The seedling method is also used. In this case, seedlings are planted after the last frost, when they have 3-4 true leaves. As they grow, the plants are trained into a single stem, removing side shoots and leaving 2-3 ovaries on it (the rest are removed).
Further care consists of moderate watering, loosening, fertilizing and sprinkling the shoots to protect them from being turned over by the wind.
