"Bordeaux mixture" (Bordo mix).
Protects plants from diseases.
"Bordeaux mixture" is used for the preparation of Bordeaux liquid.
The drug is used to combat various diseases of crops: Late blight and kokkomikoza; Scab and rust; Peach leaf curl and black rot; Mildew and Anthracnose; Different types of leaf spot and pine needles. Means spray fruit trees (quince, Apple and pear, apricot, cherry, plum, peach, cherry), berry bushes (currant, gooseberry, raspberry), as well as potatoes and beets, cucumbers and tomatoes, melons and watermelons, vine, etc.
Active ingredients: copper sulfate and calcium hydroxide.
The widespread use of the "Bordeaux mixture" is due to the significant advantages of the drug – the efficiency and ability to stay on the leaves of the plant. The tool was discovered in the 2nd half of the 19th century and is actively used today (it is still recommended by agronomists).
Mixture composition: the classic formulation of the drug involves the presence of two components – copper sulfate and quicklime. In the fight against diseases of plants you can use a solution of pure copper sulphate, but it would have caused damage to plants. Calcium compounds neutralize the negative effects of copper to an acceptable level.
Principle of operation: when the mixture gets to the plant, residual copper ions affect fungi – pathogens of plant diseases and destroy them at the cellular level. The drug has an indirect effect on harmful insects: the treated plant loses its appeal to them.
Method of preparation of composition: instructions for use of the "Bordeaux mixture", presented on the packaging of the drug, contains information about the method of preparation of the composition and concentrations. It is very important to follow the recommendations and observe the dosage so that the drug does not lose its protective properties:
1. To prepare 10 liters of 1% (copper sulfate) solution of Bordeaux liquid 100 g of copper sulfate (copper sulfate) must be dissolved in 2 liters of water (water temperature is not higher than +50°C), the volume of the solution to bring cold water to 5 liters.
2. The resulting solution of copper sulfate is slowly poured with a mandatory cross-linking of the liquid to a solution of calcium hydroxide.
3. Checking the quality of the Bordeaux liquid can be carried out by lowering a pure iron nail into it: if a copper plaque appears on the iron, a solution of calcium hydroxide should be added.
4. Bordeaux liquid should be prepared immediately before spraying and used on the same day.
5. You can not prepare a solution in an iron container!
6. Working solution can not be stored! If you exceed the amount of vitriol, you risk burning plants. The correct preparation can be checked with an iron nail. If on the nail lowered in Bordeaux liquid, there will be a pink RAID of copper, it means excess of copper sulphate in a solution. To add to the lime solution.
Application features: for spraying quince, pear and Apple, plum, apricot, cherry, cherry and peach use 100 g of copper sulfate and 100 g of lime per 10 liters of water. For processing one tree will need 2-5 liters of solution. To protect currants and gooseberries need 100 g of copper sulfate and 100 g of lime per 10 liters of water. One Bush will take 1-1,5 l of the solution. In early spring, 3% Bordeaux liquid is used, and during the growing season – 1%.
For maximum results, follow these rules:
* Spray the plants in the evening and only in calm weather.
* Do not process in high humidity or heat. This will help to avoid burns of leaves.
* Do not eat the fruit immediately after processing. There are vegetables can be 20 days after treatments, fruits – 15 days, berries – 25 days. Wash fruits thoroughly before eating.
