Adlay millet "Tear" (Job's tears) - Coix lacryma-jobi.
This is an unusual annual plant 50-60 cm high with rigid stems, suitable for growing in high flower beds to create floristic groups.
In summer, the plants form drooping paniculate inflorescences consisting of many small yellow flowers. After flowering, large seeds appear in the shape and size of falling drops of water, the color ranges from purple to gray-white. From ripe dried seeds you can make rosaries, beads and dry compositions.
Seeds are sown in the ground in April at a distance of 15-20 cm. Grow in a sunny place on fertile soil that is not too dry.
Location: Adlay millet likes fertile, structured, moderately moist soils and a warm, sunny location.
Reproduction: by seeds. In Estonia, Adlay millet seeds can be sown in open ground at the end of the first ten days of May. However, in damp, cool summers, plants may develop poorly and flowering does not occur. Therefore, it is more advisable to grow seedlings.
Use: in the garden you can plant flowers in a small group in a mixborder, rock garden, or make an original border out of it along the path.
This plant will also look interesting in an ornamental garden. Cut inflorescences can be used for flower arrangements, and seeds can be used for various crafts.
