Armenian cucumber "Tortarello Barese" (Tarra) - Cucumis melo var. flexuosus.
An original, rare plant.
Mid-early (80-85 days) melon crop of the Cucurbitaceae family for growing in open ground and film greenhouses. Light-, moisture- and heat-loving. Very demanding of soil fertility.
The plant is powerful, strongly climbing, with large leaves similar to cucumber. The main vine is 2.5-3 m long. 5-10 fruits ripen on the plant.
The fruits are cylindrical, segmented, green, 30-50 cm long, weighing 0.8-1.2 kg, with crispy, juicy, sweet pulp and a delicate melon aroma that refreshes and tones. Intended for fresh consumption.
Value of the variety: short growing season (relative to melon), long fruiting, resistance to true and false powdery mildew, temperature changes. Obtaining two different products from one plant.
For successful cultivation, light, fertile, breathable soils are required. The fruits are eaten at a young age (not allowing them to overripen) in salads, pickles, and preserves.
Agrotechnics.
Sowing: for seedlings in the last ten days of April in pots.
Temperature conditions: during germination - +25+30°C, and after emergence - +18+20°C.
Planting in a greenhouse: 30-35 day old seedlings in the phase of 3-5 true leaves, in soil rich in organic matter, after the end of the threat of spring frosts.
Placement in a well-lit and warm place.
Planting pattern: 1 plant per 1 m2. (do not sow near cucumbers, melons, watermelons, squash!).
Care: pinching (remove growth points above the 4th-6th leaf, and after the formation of 3 ovaries on the shoot - all growth points), moderate watering, fertilizing during the season with complex mineral fertilizers.
Harvesting: as the fruits ripen.
