Welsh Onion (Bunching Onion, Wintry green onion, Cong-Bai) for greens "Strada".
An early-ripening, high-yielding variety: vegetation period 55–65 days. It forms a small bulb and a powerful, compact dark green rosette of leaves.
Leaves are of medium diameter, juicy, and tender. The stalk (pseudostem) is long, white, and thick.
The variety is distinguished by high productivity. It is grown more often as an annual crop. In mild winter conditions, the onion overwinters successfully.
Recommended for fresh use in salads and vinaigrettes, soups, and for garnishing snacks. It is added to meat dishes, as well as to minced meat, pie fillings, various sauces, marinades, and dressings. It can be frozen and used in winter as polyvitamin greens.
Cultivation.
The most fertile areas are chosen for onion cultivation. The best predecessors are cucumber, tomatoes, and legumes. For perennial culture, the best time for sowing seeds is late April - early May; it can also be sown in summer (July-August).
Seeds are sown directly into open ground in late April - early May, to a depth of 1.0-2.0 cm according to the scheme 4-5 x 10-15 cm.
Sown in rows with a distance between rows of 20-30 cm, and between plants in a row of 4-6 cm. Autumn sowing is possible for harvesting in early spring.
After thinning, the stand density should be 6-10 plants per 1 m².
Plant care consists of weeding, loosening, feeding, and watering. Harvesting begins in late June — early July, when the leaves reach a height of 20-30 cm.
It can grow in one place for 4-5 years.
Young leaves are cut at a height of 5-7 cm from the ground 3-4 times during the growing season. After each cut, the plantings are fed and watered.
