Leaf Celery "Verde da Taglio" (Cutting Celery) - Apium graveolens var. secalinum L.
Juicy, tender, and fragrant. Rich in amino acids and vitamins. A table decoration and a healing seasoning!
Plant height 45-50 cm. This is the most unpretentious variety of celery, requiring very little effort to grow.
GERMINATION SECRETS:
Celery seeds contain many essential oils, making them difficult to germinate. To speed up the process, use one of these methods:
1. Hot water: Soak seeds in hot water (about +60°C) for 24 hours. Change the water periodically: as soon as it cools to room temperature, drain and refill with hot water.
2. Hydrogen peroxide: Soak seeds in a solution (a few drops of 3% peroxide per glass of water) for 30 minutes. This is enough to wash away the essential oils.
After treatment, dry the seeds on paper until they are flowable for easier sowing.
Agrotechnics (via seedlings):
* Sowing: The soil should be light and nutritious. Moisten the soil, scatter seeds on the surface (do not bury deep, max 0.5 cm). Cover the box with plastic film to maintain humidity. Keep in a warm place (+25°C). Remove the film daily for ventilation.
* Seedling care: Ensure the soil is constantly moist (use a spray bottle). Remove the film permanently after the first true leaves appear. A week later, move the seedlings to a bright and cool place (+15°C) to prevent stretching and ensure stocky growth.
* Planting out: Transplant outdoors at the age of 70 days (not earlier than mid-May). Spacing: 15-20 cm between plants.
Outdoor Care:
Watering: The soil should always be slightly moist. Mulching the beds is recommended.
Fertilizing: Not required on fertile soils. On poor soils, feed 2 times (2 weeks after planting and then a month later) with organic fertilizer (manure infusion).
