* Many gardeners decide for themselves the main question: which varieties of cucumbers to prefer in order not to make a mistake in the choice and get a good harvest.
And the gardener has something to get lost in: organizations and firms selling seeds offer a truly gigantic set of different varieties of cucumbers. There are many such varieties and hybrids that even experienced gardeners have never heard of. At the same time, all seeds are packed in bright, colorful bags with short and enthusiastic annotations. But... do not rush to be flattered by colorful labels and laudatory inscriptions on them. All this, to put it mildly, does not correspond to reality. And not because someone specifically decided to deceive you. No, of course! It's just that the laws of the market are one thing, and the laws of nature are quite another. And these laws do not always coincide.
The seller pursues a specific goal: to beautifully pack his "goods", quickly and profitably sell. The further fate of the "goods" does not interest him. The buyer (in this case, the gardener), on the contrary, having bought seeds, wants to know what he will get from them: fruits that flaunt on a colored label, or grass that may not bear fruit at all in our climate...
Therefore, when buying cucumber seeds, first of all focus on those varieties and hybrids that you already know well. Or consult with more experienced gardeners, who will certainly tell you the right solution.
And, if you are an inquisitive and risky person, it is best to purchase several different varieties, but be sure to include varieties that you already know well in the assortment. Then in any case, your risk will be minimized.
You need to do just that, because many varieties are brought from afar and have not yet been adapted to our climatic zone. And the agricultural technology of their cultivation may differ sharply from the agricultural technology of local proven varieties.
It is not for nothing that they say: "An old friend is better than two new ones!"
Therefore, along with imported varieties, do not forget about such long-tested varieties of cucumbers as: Muromsky 36, Vyaznikovsky 37, Elegant, Indestructible 40, Nezhinsky 12, Altai early, Cascade, Konkurent and others, which give good and stable yields in any unstable summer.
Of the more "new" varieties of cucumbers, you can recommend: April, Zozulya, Crystal, Manul, Moscow greenhouse, Bush and others.
When planting cucumber seeds in the soil, do not forget that they all love well-ventilated areas with fertile, fertilized soil, abundant watering and tying up growing lashes on a trellis, otherwise they may get downy mildew.
Good luck in choosing varieties and in growing technology!
