Hot Pepper "Escondida".
A historic heirloom from the mountains of New Mexico (1800)!
A unique mid-season variety that combines a rich history, excellent yield, and superb mild flavor. This is a real find for connoisseurs of mildly hot peppers.
Characteristics:
* Plant: Vigorous and strong-growing, yet maintains a neat, compact bush shape. Height ranges from 60 to 100 cm.
* Fruits: Pointed pods 5 to 10 cm long. As they ripen, they spectacularly change color from green to a deep dark red (with a reddish-brown tint).
* Taste and Texture: The flesh is firm and crisp. The taste is very pleasant, sweet, with a mild, delicate heat (piquancy) that warms rather than burns.

HISTORICAL REFERENCE:
This ancient heirloom variety originated in Escondida, nestled high in the mountains of New Mexico (USA). Dating back to 1800, it has been carefully passed down through generations in the family of Jeff Martinez, who preserved the seeds from his great-great-grandfather. Today, this variety is featured in the prestigious Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds catalog.

Use of hot pepper fruits for medicinal purposes.
The fruits contain an alkaloid-like amide - capsaicin, essential oils, fatty oil, steroid saponins, coloring matter, carotenoids, vitamins P, B, A and C, wax.
Tincture of pepper fruits helps improve digestion processes, increase appetite, and has a strong irritating effect.
Pepper tincture is used as an external remedy, which has a local irritant effect:
- for arthritis and myositis
- in acute gastrointestinal diseases;
- mixed with sunflower oil, used for rubbing into the skin as a distracting agent for myositis and sciatica.
Capsicum is not recommended for use in diseases of the stomach, intestines, liver, kidneys: when consumed internally in large quantities, red capsicum capsaicin causes acute gastrointestinal upset, which in severe cases can lead to death.
