* How to grow pumpkin in trenches?
Pumpkin needs a fairly large feeding area: 1.2-1.5 m. It is sown in a pre-prepared bed with dry seeds after the threat of spring frosts has passed.
The soil at a depth of 6-8 cm should warm up to +15+16°C.
In Estonia, for example, this will be after June 10. You can sow much earlier, for example, on May 10-15, but for this you need to pre-warm the soil - cover it with black film for 10-12 days before sowing, and bury textile waste (an old woolen coat, blanket or other unnecessary clothes made of natural fabrics) in the bed to a depth of 40-50 cm.
Pour organic soil on top. This insulating layer will protect the pumpkin root system from the cold coming from the lower layers of the earth in the spring.
In the fall, dig a trench to the depth of two spade blades and fill it with plant residues, weeds, fallen leaves, add a small amount of manure and immediately cover with black agrotextile.
In the spring, when all this mass has settled, add fertile soil to completely fill the trenches.
Trenches can also be dug in the spring, but only to the depth of one spade blade, and fill them completely with dry hay or leaves. Sprinkle the soil dug from the trench on top, compact, water and cover with black covering cloth for 10 days.
As soon as the soil warms up to +15+16°C, sow the seeds.
