Golden groundsel (Golden ray, Summer ragwort) - Ligularia przewalskii (Maxim.) Diels.
An elegant combination of distinct palmate leaves and dark, erect flowering stems dotted with yellow candelabra inflorescences.
Perennial from the Asteraceae family.
Homeland: Mongolia, Northern China.
Inflorescence colour: yellow.
Foliage: dissected palmate leaves.
Natural flowering period: July - September.
Flowering plant height: 80 cm.
Distance between plants: 80 cm.
Winter hardiness zones: Z4 – Z8.
Location: full sun in cool summer climates or partial shade.
Soil requirements: it is recommended to plant in moist, fertile soil. Looks best near ponds and in large flower beds.
1,0 g = 625 seeds.

Ligularias should be grown in fertile, deep, moist soil in dappled shade but with some protection from strong winds that may damage the inflorescences.
They can form a magnificent display in a mixed border and can look imposing as waterside plants where the inflorescences are reflected into the water.
They are relatively untroubled by pests and diseases but like many herbaceous perennials the young, tender, emerging leaves can be damaged by slugs and snails in the spring.
Named plants should be divided in spring or directly after flowering.  Seeds can also be sown in spring and autumn and may produce some interesting hybrids.

Ligularia przewalskii Przewalski kobarpea
Leopard plant, golden ray. Bot.syn.: Senecio przewalskii.
