Lettuce "Great Lakes 118"
Iceberg lettuce "Great Lakes 118" - Latuca sativa L.
Large-sized variety for summer-autumn use. The growing season is 85-90 days.
The leaves are bright green, dense, corrugated, crunchy and sweet taste, keep fresh for a long time.
Head weight - 250-350 g. Stalks resistant even in warm weather.
Growing conditions.
Cold-resistant and light-loving crop, tolerates frosts down to -5°C.
Grows well in light, fertile, cultivated, moist soils.
For uninterrupted production, sowing is recommended at intervals of 15-20 days.
The best predecessors for salad are cabbage and potatoes, for which organic fertilizers were applied. In autumn, plowing or digging is carried out with the addition of humus. Acidic soils require liming. In spring, mineral fertilizers are applied. Seeds are sown in open ground in early April, in wide rows with row spacing of 60-70 cm. Sowing depth is 1.5-2 cm. Rolling is carried out before and after sowing.
When dense shoots appear, thinning is carried out twice: in the phase of one true leaf at a distance of 5-7 cm and 1.5 months after sowing, leaving a distance of 15-20 cm between plants. After thinning, fertilizing is carried out with a solution of a special complex fertilizer.
Care consists of loosening the rows and watering. Watering is carried out along the furrows, trying to avoid water getting on the leaves of the plants.
Lettuce is harvested by cutting off the rosette of leaves at the very surface of the soil.
