Moss Campion "Persian Carpet" - Silene schafta.
Family: Caryophyllaceae.
Moss Champion grows in the Caucasus and Northern Iran.
A perennial plant that forms loose turf up to 20 cm in height. Stems are recumbent and erect, highly branched. The leaves are small, light green, on short petioles, ovate. The flowers are bright pink, up to 3 cm in diameter, 1-3 at the ends of the shoots. Blooms profusely from July to autumn for 60-70 days. Winter-hardy (Z4 - Z8).
Thanks to the bright and abundant bloom of elegant cup-shaped flowers, it creates a festive mood from July to late autumn. Graceful bushes quickly form curtains that can easily cover a sunny slope, a ridge, and enliven an alpine hill. Can be used as a potted plant. In addition to obvious decorative advantages, it has increased winter hardiness and ease of care.
Agrotechnics.
Sowing: April-May in open ground or March for seedlings. 1,0 g = 3300 seeds.
Seeds require preliminary stratification: sow the seeds on the surface of slightly compacted and moistened soil, cover them with glass and place in the refrigerator (temperature +5+7 °C). The crops are kept in such conditions for 21 days, then transferred to room conditions. At a temperature of +20+22 °C, seedlings appear on days 14-20. Seedlings dive at the stage of 1-2 true leaves. Seedlings are planted in the ground at the end of May, thinned out, maintaining a distance between plants of 30-35 cm.
It can be propagated by dividing the bush in the spring, as soon as the plants begin to grow.
Flowering: July-September.
Location: prefer sunny places. In shaded places, they lose their decorative effect, bloom weakly, and the stems become elongated.
Soil: requires slightly acidic, well-drained soil.
Care: minimal watering. Prefers light, well-drained soils and a sunny location. For good flowering, 2-3 feedings are needed during the season.
Use: for flower beds, ridges, borders, rocky areas.
Partners: good in combination with blue gentians, bells, violets.

Eng.: Catchfly, Rosy Gem, Moss Champion.
