Dotted horsemint - Monarda punctata.
Rare in gardens, this is an unusual and attractive species of perennial herbaceous plant native to North America.
Like all monardas, it is a valuable essential oil plant and a good honey plant. It grows quickly and blooms luxuriantly, but is significantly different from other species and looks very exotic.
Rich green foliage and lush terminal inflorescences with pale pink reed petals with contrasting strokes and dots and creamy yellow, funnel-shaped tubular petals.
Prefers illuminated, sunny places and loose, nutritious, moisture-absorbing soil.
It is recommended to rejuvenate plantings by dividing old bushes every 4-5 years.
Height: 0.9 m.
Flowering: VII-IX.
Recommendations for sowing and care:
- sow in seedling containers or ridges with loose, water-permeable soil in spring or autumn under snow;
- ensure regular watering, loosening, shading from direct sunlight, and, if necessary, dig into more nutritious soil;
- plant the grown seedlings in a permanent place in the evening or in cloudy weather, water well and mulch;
- in the spring, fertilize with a complete mineral fertilizer with microelements; in the summer, it is advisable to add wood ash;
- add organic matter in the form of well-rotted compost or leaf humus as needed.
