* How to get your own seeds from varietal tomatoes correctly?
It is not difficult to get seeds from tomatoes that have ripened in their own garden (NB! Seeds for propagation are taken only from varieties, but not from F1 hybrids (!)). Having selected beautiful, large fruits from the lower branches of the bush, you need to cut each in half, scrape the pulp with seeds into a plate. If you look closely, each seed is enveloped in a translucent shell. If the seeds are not cleaned from it, they can simply deteriorate.
The mass with seeds should be diluted in half with water and left in a warm place for 3-4 days. First, the mixture will begin to ferment, and then mold will appear on its surface. Now you need to rinse the seeds several times in clean water, removing the floating dummy seeds, and transfer to a plate to dry. It is undesirable to use paper for this purpose: tomato seeds are slightly rough and can stick to it during the drying process.
Tomato seeds that are wet for a long time can germinate, so you need to immediately dry them a little with a hair dryer. It is convenient to do this through a napkin, but in this case the air stream should not be hot.
Then the seeds should be left to dry for 10-12 days in a dry, ventilated place (but not in the sun). It is best to store dried seeds in a cloth bag. Put the bag in a tin or glass jar, close the lid tightly and put it in a cool place for the winter (about + 15 ° C).
* Tomatoes are self-pollinating plants, on which both female and male flowers are present at the same time, so their different varieties can be planted in the beds nearby.
