Early maturing variety: 40-45 days. An annual plant with elongated purple leaves. Flowers range from white to purple-pink. Plant height 40-60 cm. Seedlings appear in 1.5-2 weeks. Contains essential oils, vitamins and phytoncides.
Basil is a light-loving, heat-loving and moisture-loving crop. It can grow in open ground, under film cover, as well as in pot culture on the window. Used as a seasoning for salads, soups, mushroom and meat dishes in fresh and dried form and as a medicinal plant.
Prefers light fertile soils. Sown with a distance of 30 cm between rows, sowing depth 0.5-1 cm, after thinning leave 8-10 cm between plants. It can be grown through 35-45-day seedlings, which are planted when the threat of frost has passed. Harvesting is usually carried out during the period of mass flowering.
Growing conditions.
The culture is demanding on heat, light and moisture. It is recommended to grow by seedling method. At an optimal temperature of +20+25°C, seedlings appear in 10-15 days. Planting in open ground when the threat of frost has passed. Well-drained loamy soils rich in organic matter, protected from cold winds are preferred for growth.
Prefers warm, humus-rich, light soils in a well-lit area. In Estonian conditions, it is better to grow through seedlings. For this, seeds are sown at the end of March - beginning of April to a depth of 0.5-0.8 cm. At the rate of 0.3 g per 100 plants, the distance between rows is 5-6 cm. Seedlings are planted after June 5 according to the scheme 25 g per 25 cm.
Care consists of loosening, weeding and watering. Leaves and young shoots are used at the beginning of flowering. 2-3 cuts are carried out during the growing season.

Please note that... leaves are rich in essential oils and have a strong pleasant smell. Fresh leaves are a valuable source of carotene and rutin. Fresh and dried leaves are good as a seasoning for fish and meat dishes, sauces, salads. Leaves can be used for canning vegetables and for flavoring confectionery.
Did you know that... the use of basil with purple leaves is similar to that of green-leaved basil. But purple leaves are especially effective on one dish with cucumbers, tomatoes and other fresh vegetables.
