Watermelon "Crimson Sweet"
Early ripening variety. From sowing to ripening about 85 days. The shape of the fruit is round, the peel is medium green with small green stripes, thin, dense.
The pulp is deep red, firm, sweet and aromatic. Fruit weight 9-13 kg. The variety is distinguished by high yield, transportability, resistance to fusarium and anthracnose.
Watermelon is very demanding on light and heat, heat-resistant, drought-resistant. Low demand for soil fertility. Grows well on light sandy and sandy soils.
Does not tolerate acidic soils. It responds well to mineral fertilizers (especially phosphorus) and organic (rotted manure and humus).
In Estonian conditions, it is recommended to grow watermelon through seedlings that are 30-35 days old.
They are planted in open ground under temporary film shelters or in greenhouses in the last decade of May. Stocking density 3 plants / m2.
Agrotechnics.
Watermelon is grown in open ground and greenhouses, on light air and permeable soils.
Sowing approximately in May, when the soil warms up to a depth of 8-10 cm to + 15 + 16 ° С.
Landing scheme 140x100. In greenhouses 70x70, using trellises (fruits can be hung in nets).
Before sowing, the seeds are treated in a solution of potassium permanganate, then washed with clean water. The seedling method of growing is also used.
In this case, the seedlings are planted after the last frost at the age of 3-4 true leaves.
As the plants grow, they are formed into one stem, removing the lateral shoots and leaving 2-3 ovaries on it (the rest are removed).
Further care consists of moderate watering, loosening, dressing and dusting the lashes to protect them from turning over by the wind.
