Why do you need to tie cucumbers?
Firstly, the surface of the ground between the rows remains unoccupied by vines throughout the growing season, which facilitates tillage, which must be carried out frequently, because short-fruited cucumbers are torn off every day and, whether we like it or not, we trample the ground under our feet...
Secondly, cucumbers that grow upward are easier and faster to pick: there is no need to turn over the vines or accidentally step on them, which often happens with the usual growing method...
Thirdly, plants are less exposed to various diseases compared to those lying on the ground - and therefore the fruiting time is extended.
And, fourthly, plant productivity increases: from 100 m2 you can get 600-1200 kg of fruits with high technological qualities.
By the way: more than 200 years ago, English gardeners noticed: if you tie vines of cucumbers to a fence (like an inclined trellis), their taste “becomes incomparably better.”
Truly, “there is nothing new under the sun” - the beds have been pretty much plowed by the inquisitive human mind.
