* Storing pumpkin until spring.
For short-term storage (1–2 months), mature pumpkins of all varieties are suitable. Especially good keeping quality is typical of table varieties of large-fruited pumpkins: they have thick, durable rind tissues and a high content of dry matter in the flesh. At room temperature, pumpkin continues to ripen for about 2 months and produces fully developed seeds. Mature winter varieties keep well for 5–6 months in the coolest place. They are usually kept in a dark pantry or under a bed, protected from sunlight.
Attention! If you notice a spot starting to spoil, cut out the affected area down to healthy tissue, then carefully sear the cut surface over a low candle flame.

* For traditional use, pumpkin flesh and seeds are used.
In folk tradition, boiled pumpkin flesh has been recommended as a supportive food in various conditions, and raw pulp is used externally on minor skin issues. Pumpkin seeds are commonly used as an anti-parasitic remedy.
Pumpkin is considered especially useful in diets; boiled flesh and fresh juice may support digestion. Fresh juice is sometimes taken in several glasses per day. Regular inclusion of pumpkin in the diet is also valued for its role in nutrition, including for swelling, and for liver, kidney and cardiovascular conditions, as it supports diuresis and salt elimination.
Pumpkin seeds are also used for parasites.

! Possible negative effects: bloating, stomach pain, colic. Pumpkin is not recommended for people with low-acid gastritis or peptic ulcer disease of the stomach and duodenum.
