* Preparing pepper seeds for sowing.
Two to three weeks before sowing, the seeds must be checked for germination. They take 10 pieces of pepper seeds and put them in cloth bags in warm (+25°C) water for a day, then take them out of the water, put them in a flat plate and put them in a warm (+30°C) place, constantly keeping the cloth bags moist. condition. After 3-4 days, the seeds that have hatched give an idea of germination. If out of 10 seeds only 5 pieces are hatched, then it is considered that the seeds are suitable for sowing.
Preparation of seeds for sowing begins with sorting. To do this, they are dipped in a 5% solution of sodium chloride (50 g of salt are taken per 1 liter of water), stirred for 2-3 minutes and allowed to stand for 10 minutes. Floating seeds are removed, and those that have settled to the bottom are washed with water. Then the seeds are disinfected. In 100 g of boiled water, dissolve 1 g of potassium permanganate and lower the seeds for 20 minutes. It is possible to process the seeds in such a solution: 1 g of potassium permanganate, 0.2 g of boric acid and 0.1 g of copper sulphate are dissolved in 1 l of water. Seeds in the solution are kept for 15 minutes.
Seeds after disinfection are washed with water and soaked in a nutrient solution: 1/4 tablet of microelements is diluted in 1 liter of water. Or, 1/3 teaspoon of complex mineral fertilizer is dissolved in 1 liter of water.
You can also prepare such nutrient solutions: in 1 liter of water, dilute 1/3 teaspoon of nitrophoska and 1/2 teaspoon of wood ash or 1 teaspoon of mushy (green) mullein and 1/3 teaspoon of nitrophoska (or nitroammophoska).
In any chosen warm (+ 25 + 28 ° C) solution, seeds are dipped in fabric bags for a day. Nutritious treatment of seeds contributes to their rapid and friendly germination, and also increases the early yield of pepper. Next, the seed bags are removed from the nutrient solution, slightly rinsed with clean water and placed on a saucer for 1-2 days at a temperature of + 25 ° C (until the seeds peck). Sowing with seeds that have sown, sprouts on the 5-6th day. It is very useful to harden the seeds by exposing them to variable temperatures for 5-6 days. For this purpose, seeds are taken after treatment with a nutrient solution and placed in the lower part of the refrigerator for 2 days, where the temperature is +2 + 5 ° C, then they are taken out and placed for 1 day in a warm place with a temperature of + 18 ° C, and then again for 2 days in the refrigerator. From the refrigerator, the seeds are immediately sown in the sowing boxes. At the same time, the seeds, both in the refrigerator and in a warm place, should always be moderately moist.
