* Preparing pepper seeds for sowing.
Two to three weeks before sowing, seeds must be checked for germination. Take 10 pepper seeds and put them in fabric bags in warm (+25°C) water for a day, then take them out of the water, put them on a flat plate and put them in a warm (+30°C) place, constantly keeping the fabric bags moist condition. After 3-4 days, the sprouted seeds give an idea of germination. If out of 10 seeds only 5 sprouted, then the seeds are considered suitable for sowing.
Preparing seeds for sowing begins with sorting. To do this, they are dipped in a 5% solution of table salt (50 g of salt per 1 litre of water), stirred for 2-3 minutes and allowed to stand for 10 minutes. The floating seeds are removed, and those that have settled to the bottom are washed with water.
The seeds are then disinfected. Dissolve 1 g of potassium permanganate in 100 g of boiled water and soak the seeds for 20 minutes. You can also treat the seeds in the following solution: 1 g of potassium permanganate, 0.2 g of boric acid and 0.1 g of copper sulfate are dissolved in 1 litre of water. The seeds are kept in the solution for 15 minutes.
After disinfection, the seeds are washed with water and soaked in a nutrient solution: 1/4 tablet of microelements is diluted in 1 litre of water. Or dissolve 1/3 teaspoon of complex mineral fertilizer in 1 litre of water. You can also prepare the following nutrient solutions: dilute 1/3 teaspoon of nitrophoska and 1/2 teaspoon of wood ash or 1 teaspoon of mushy (green) mullein and 1/3 teaspoon of nitrofoska (or nitroammophoska) in 1 litre of water.
Seeds in fabric bags are dipped into any selected warm (+25+28°C) solution for a day. Nutrient treatment of seeds promotes rapid and friendly germination and also increases the early harvest of pepper. Next, the bags with seeds are removed from the nutrient solution, lightly rinsed with clean water and placed on a saucer for 1-2 days at a temperature of +25°C (until the seeds hatch). Sowing with sprouted seeds produces shoots on the 5-6th day. It is very useful to harden the seeds by exposing them to variable temperatures for 5-6 days. For this purpose, take the seeds after treatment with a nutrient solution and place them in the lower part of the refrigerator for 2 days, where the temperature is +2+5°C, then take them out and put them in a warm place with a temperature of +18°C for 1 day, and then again for 2 overnight in the refrigerator.
From the refrigerator, seeds are immediately sown into seed boxes. At the same time, seeds, both in the refrigerator and in a warm place, should always be moderately moistened.

Did you know that... canned peppers are perfectly tasty and healthy. Peel the fruits of sweet peppers (7 kg), cut into slices 1 cm wide. Boil in the marinade for 5-7 minutes, place in sterilized jars and roll up the lids.
Marinade calculation: for 7 kg of pepper: 2 cups of water, 1 cup of vegetable oil, 2/3 cup of sugar, 2 tbsp. spoons of salt, garlic, bay leaf, black pepper.
By the way: place peppers of different colours in a jar - and you will greatly decorate your table and delight your family, especially children.
